Cruising Dinghy Plans
I am looking for suggestions for dinghy plans. i would like to build an excellent cruising dinghy. it must have the following characteristics: + sails + rows + can be stowed in a deck area of about 4' (between the mast and doger, on the cabin-top). likely meaning the dinghy must be nestable. + buoyant when flooded. A rare opportunity to buy a well-made example of this famous self-righting 14ft cruising dinghy designed by eric coleman, one of the founders of the dca, and featured in his book dinghies for all waters.. Sailing enthusiasts and backyard boat builders are not likely to find free boat plans for a sailing pram that can be built faster, lighter, stronger, or less expensively than graefin-10. two men can begin work on a friday evening and have a smart, lively 10-ft. 85-pound sailboat in the water by sunday evening (it’s been done)..
Much of the content of this blog is about small sailboats used for cruising, but there is also a fair amount about racing yachts. my primary interest has been with small sailing boats suited to cruising, exceptions being larger, spectacular vessels such as the trimarans featured in yesterday’s article.. Speed strip is still available from them but they are no longer producing the kits and the plans, with full size mould shapes are now available from ourselves. the ariel was based upon our skylark 8 multi-chine pram dinghy which has proven very successful as a tender, small sailing dinghy and car toppable fishing dinghy.. Dinghy cruising is not just a poor man's substitute for a proper yachting. many dinghies are potentially capable of covering great distances and carrying all the equipment that will be needed for overnight stops..
